About Heather

I've always enjoyed walking but it wasn't until 1999 that it became a passion.

In November of that year I opted to do a sponsored trek along parts of the Great Wall of China. I  roped in a couple of friends too, so early 1999 saw the start of regular trips to the Lake District to train. At the beginning many of the fells looked awesome but by building up gradually they soon became accessible and every visit saw a new challenge overcome. It was so inspiring to see our fitness levels increase and our ability to walk further and at higher levels grow. I walked in all weathers and as a result have build up a substantial kit and the Lakes are still one of my favourite walking areas in the UK.

As part of the training and to see if we could sustain walking for four days in a row, we set ourselves the challenge of walking half the Ridgeway Walking Trail. Good weather abounded so dress of the day was shorts and t-shirts and accordingly packs were not too heavy. The scenery was stunning and it was such a pleasure to walk in this wonderful countryside.

So off to China and what an experience that was. Nothing could really have prepared me for this. The people were fantastic and we walked in many places where the tourists do not get to. My favourite day was one where the wall followed the border between Mongolia and China. On this stretch we were walking on authentic wall, no refurbishment here and there was no one else around, that was bliss. Can you see why I got this complete walking bug?

Since 1999, I have also walked in Switzerland using Interlaken as a base, on a range of wonderful trails in Utah and Arizona and on long and short trails in Spain and France. On top of that my walking in the UK has increased and I have definitely got to know my local area much better.

I now walk 6 days a week, first thing in the morning if at all possible as that is the best time for me to fit exercise into my life. I was doing this on and off over the last couple of years and then in September 2005, I decided it was time to take my exercise seriously. It has made such a difference to my life. I reap the benefits every day as I have so much more energy making me more positive, I have time for me everyday and that is a big bonus and I have lost weight and toned up too. I also walk regularly at weekends.

I am also a qualified coach and trainer who has worked in the field of personal development for over 20 years. I set up WaringWell in 2000 and work with a wide range of people to help them ensure their career or job and subsequently their lifestyle is the right one for them fulfilling their needs and giving joy and satisfaction. With a business partner I also run time2bme  providing some intensive space and time for women to women to work out what they want in their lives.

I am a member of the Federation of Small Businesses, a founder member of the Association for Coaching and a past Chair of Women in Docklands  a networking organisation for Business Women in East London and Thames Gateway. I am often approached to speak on coaching issues on the radio and in person and have written regularly for a number of publications including  Cosmopolitan Magazine and the Sunday Express. I am the resident Life Coach at the Fish4jobs website,  for two years wrote a syndicated column for the Newsquest group, regularly contribute articles and tips to many other publications and was chosen to be the career expert on Britain's Worst Boss for Channel 5.

Walkers' Coach enables me to bring to a whole host of people the benefits of walking and of personal development together. This is where multitasking really comes into its own. Add the possibility of doing this as an individual or as part of a group, daily, weekly, at weekends or on a walking getaway and the scope is limitless. What suits you? Email me

On May 9th 2007 I walked the Inca Trail in Peru with 4 of my walking group and I am just considering where 2008's trek will be. Do you want to join in? If so email me.
